Framework for a Maker Mindset

This graphic is the foundation of my thoughts on makerspaces, education, design and navigation of life.

In 2014 I set out to start a makerspace in Green Bay, WI. I was a package and product developer with access to the really cool tools that are associated with makerspaces. At the same time education was engaging with the Maker Movement. As word got around about our space schools, organizations and other makerspaces began to reach out in efforts to share best practices.

This graphic, always a work in progress, is the sweet syrup boiled down from everything I learned. It was originally inspired by one of many awesome blog posts by John Spencer.

I layered on a lot of my own thoughts and experiences, and I tried to broaden the categories beyond specific educational examples. This blog will dive deeply into nuances, examples, tangents and extensions that I feel make this graphic so relevant to makerspaces, education and life.
